On my recent dive trip to Pulau Weh, Aceh, I have the opportunity to try on other fins as I loaned my fins to a fellow dive buddy.
The first fin I tried was Scubapro Gosport. This is worn without booties, only aqua socks, but since I didn't bring the socks, I went in barefooted. To my dismay this fin is not powerful and way too flexible. I was unable to navigate the currents and propel. Definitely a negative from me.
Next is the Mares Avanti X3. This is very similar to the Avanti Quattro+, and it comes with rubber strap and buckles, unlike the Quattro+ which comes in bungee strap. I am not a big fan of bungee strap anyway. I prefer steel spring strap.
For me the Avanti X3 is not as powerful as the Quattro+, but it's not bad. It's lighter and thus, have lesser propulsion power.
I have been using the same Mares Avanti Quattro+ fins since my Open Water 8 years ago, and it is still going good - the propulsion and power is just great.
In the past I have also used Beuchat Powerjet, Scubapro Seawing Nova. No doubt these are good fins, just not something I would buy to replace.
So I am still a huge fan of the Avanti Quattro+, despite it being a tad heavy at 1.9kg, just a little heavier than the Seawing Nova.
